Boston; a nice place to visit.....
The last weekend in October is always a long weekend in Vermont. We took the opportunity to head to Boston. We spent one day at the Boston museum of science, and another day to go to the Lego store, and American Girl store. It was a weekend well spent. It was nice to have some time to visit with my dad too.
First we went to the museum of Science in Boston.
We had discovered that there was a meeting for Lego Club members the next day at the Natick Mall, coincidentally the same mall where we were going for lunch at the American Girl Store. Score! Connor and Al hung out building things:
Lego Club members also get a special t-shirt:
We then took everyone to the American Girl Store. Aisling had a gift card for her birthday. She was able to get her doll's ears pierced. (The things you can pay people to do these days.....) The girls were in heaven. They each got a special high chair for their dolls, as well as a special tea cup and plate.
Connor tried really hard to maintain a cool image; although I think he rather liked the food...
how can you not like three mini ice cream cones; even if you are surrounded by pink?
Wyatt was just thrilled with the whole weekend!

Siobhan and I shared a giant sundae:
You'd be surprised at how much she ate!
The girls had a blast, and I am sure they would love to go back there someday. Thankfully, we can send Connor to the Lego store!
We had a really great time. We also helped Poppy rake leaves the next day. I'll post those pictures later.
Visiting Boston makes me remember how much I love it there. However, I also remember why we left. Holy cow is there a lot of traffic, and so many people! And, everyone is in such a rush. Also, we got lost so many times. I think we went both ways on the Tobin Bridge. Ugh. I am so glad we are close enough to visit, but I'm not sure we'll ever move back!

(obviously an exclusive club)
There was also a little indoor playground in the mall.
Wyatt and dad waited while the kids played for a few minutes.
(Although this looks like a prison line up picture, I assure you it's not)

Halloween AKA Sugar high from now until Thanksgiving
Halloween was a blast around these parts. We found ourselves graced with the presense of Hannah Montana:
Snow White:
And a wizard. Or, a dead wizard. Or, a wizard who found a wig in the basement and wanted to add it to his costume:
We (per usual) got a pretty late start out trick or treating. We went with our close friends, who (per usual) ended up waiting for us to run around like crazy getting ready.
It was insanely cold. We donned hats and mittens by the end of it. I'd say they still had a good time though!

Aisling's pumpkin rotted right through. She totally didn't care though, and carved the thing all by herself! She was such a trooper!

Gum did you say?
Church today was a tad crazy. I take that back. Church today was a tad normal. We had all our four kids with us, and Aisling's best friend. The kids were totally wound up for a million reasons. Anyway, it was a challenge to make it through without attempting to sell any of them.
During communion, there is a phrase which is said: "And the peace of God which passes all understanding". This is a quiet moment. At that time, Siobhan popped her head up and shouted "Piece of gum?".
I think she was hoping for a free sample.

Wyatt swinging and cracking up!
We took the kids to Boston a few weeks ago. (Pictures to follow I hope)
My favorite moment of the whole trip, though, was this one. Wyatt using the indoor swing at the Boston Museum of Science. (Turn your volume on)

The slow ascent
Each moment in parenting is a moment leading our children toward their lives as adults. With each passing season I am remarking on how much older my children are getting, most notably Connor.
Connor had a friend over today. It's one of his closest friends, and it happens to be a girl. They've been in class together for two years, but are in different classes this year. Connor has been nervously chatting about this difference, worried about losing her friendship. Thankfully, she was able to come over today. I noticed that Connor was wearing some of his school clothes this morning, and asked him several times to change into play clothes. Finally, he told me that he looked "cool" in these clothes, and would not be changing them.
Finally it dawned on me, he was dressed to impress! Thankfully, most of his interactions with her during the day still involved playing nerf tag and racing around the yard. I think the ascent will be slow yet.
